Welcome to the Candy Hearts Blog Hop for December! Today we are sharing New Year’s themed projects. After reading my post, I hope you will hop to the next person on the list below. Be sure to hop around to see ALL the great projects the Candy Hearts have created for you!

2020 has been a challenging year for most of us. In an instant, life as we know it was altered significantly. Personally, I’m very much looking forward to a better 2021!!! So, I wanted to make a card to welcome in the New Year with glitz, glamor and happiness! Who doesn’t love a shiny, metallic shaker card??

How I made it:

Cut and Score with your Paper Trimmer:

  • Basic Black – 8.5″ x 5.5″, scored at 4.25″ on the long side
  • Basic Black – 4″ x 5.25″
  • Gold Foil – 4″ x 5.25″
  • Window Sheet – 3 7/8″ x 5 1/8″
  • Whisper White or Basic White – 4″ x 5.25″
  • Whisper White or Basic White – 3″ x 3″

Die Cut Using Peek-a-Hoot Dies:

  • Your Gold Foil panel, placing the tag dies approximately in the center of the panel
  • As a bonus, you’ll have three gold tags to use for a later project!!
  • As an ADDITIONAL bonus, this die set is currently on sale for 40% OFF!! Click here to buy it now!!

Emboss Using Dainty Diamonds:

  • The die-cut gold foil frame you created in the prior step

Adhere your Window Sheet to the Gold Panel:

  • Using Strips of Tear & Tape, adhere the Window Sheet to the back side of the gold panel
  • You will want to use strips along the edges as well as close the the frames of the window your die cut, otherwise people will be able to see your shaker mechanisms

Create the Shaker Element:

  • Take a Foam Adhesive Sheet and cut it into 1/4″ strips as shown
  • Use the strips to “frame out” the back side of your panel
  • You will want to create three squares around the shaker windows, as well as use strips to support the outer edge of your card front, see below
  • Place sequins from Sequins For Everything into each window
  • You can choose how much you want to use, but I used a quite a bit and also put more in the larger windows than the smaller ones
  • Carefully peal off the backing of the Foam Adhesive Strips, if you make any sudden or jerky movements, you’ll have sequins all over (trust me, I’ve done it!)
  • If you get any sequins stuck to the adhesive you reveal, carefully use tweezers to move the pieces back into the piles
  • Adhere the 4″ x 5.25″ panel of Basic Black to the revealed adhesive
  • You now have a completed Shaker Element!! Shake is as much as you want, you deserve to be excited over this!!!

Stamp Using So Sentimental:

  • On your square of Whisper White or Basic White
  • Using Versamark, the phrase “This calls for CONFETTI!” centered on your square
  • Heat emboss using Silver Stampin’ Emboss Powder
  • Using Basic Grey, stamp confetti in a line above and below your sentiment

Die Cut Using Stitched So Sweetly Dies:

  • The sentiment created in the step above

Die Cut Using Playful Alphabet Dies:

  • From a scrap of Silver Foil paper, the numbers 2021

Assemble the Card:

  • Fold your scored Basic Black card base at the 4.25” score line and burnish with your bone folder
  • Adhere your Shaker Element to the front of the card base
  • Adhere the sentiment to the bottom left of the card front
  • Using small dots of Multipurpose Liquid Glue, adhere the numbers for the year to the Window Sheet of the largest opening.
    • It is important here that you don’t use too much glue, you don’t want to “gunk up” your window
  • Adhere the last piece of Whisper White/Basic White to the inside of the card
Thank you for hopping with the Hearts today! Be sure to hop around to all the stops. You do not want to miss any of the creativity in this talented group of stampers!

  1. So cute. I really like multiple shaker areas. I don’t see that feature often. Your steps with photos of how to make the shaker element are clear and helpful. Thanks for sharing this cute card.
