Welcome to InKing Royalty’s February Blog Hop! During this year’s blog hops, we are having fun with our stamping favorites – our favorite themes for seasonal cards and projects. This month’s projects feature balloons, so you are in for a celebratory treat. We are excited to share our creations with you today! After you read my post, I hope you’ll hop over to the next person on the list at the base of this post.
As soon as I found out the theme for this month’s InKing Royalty Blog Hop, I knew that I was going to use the Hey, Birthday Chick stamp set. The image of the chicken floating with a balloon tied to its tail feathers is just too cute! I had an idea to make it “float” on the inside of the card using pop-up gift card holder that Candy Ford of Stamp Candy taught me back in November. I think you’re really going to like this!
There are a lot of pieces to this card, but I promise you that it’s worth the effort – the recipient of this card will love it!!
How I made it:
Cut and Score with your Paper Trimmer:
- Melon Mambo – 11″ x 4.255″, scored at 5.5″ on the long side – we are making a Tent-Fold Card this time
- Coastal Cabana – 4″ x 5.25″
- Melon Mambo – 4.25″ x 2.75″
- Granny Apple Green with white dots from the Oh So Ombre Sale-A-Bration DSP – 4″ x 2.5″
- Granny Apple Green Solid Ombre from the Oh So Ombre Sale-A-Bration DSP – 4″ x 4 3/8″
- Coastal Cabana – 2 pieces cut to 3-3/4″ x 3-1/4″ and scored along the shorter side at 3/4″, 1-1/2″. 2-1/4″, and 3″
- Basic White – 4″ x 3.75″ – for the inside of your card
- Basic White – 4.25″ x 4″ – for stamping the floating chicken
- Melon Mambo – 2″ x 3″
- Granny Apple Green – 2″ x 3″
- Coastal Cabana – 2″ x 3″ (2 pieces)
- Daffodil Delight – 2″ x 3″
- Crumb Cake – 2″ x 3″
- Window Sheet – 1″ x 2″
Stamp using Hey Birthday Chick:
- On the 4.25″ x 4″ piece of Basic White, stamp the Floating Chicken in Tuxedo Memento Black twice – color one of them using Stampin’ Blends
- On the 4″ x 3.75″ piece of Basic White, with the 4″ dimension oriented as the width and 3.75″ as the height:
- stamp the sentiment “you’re still a spring chicken” centered horizontally and placed toward the top of the piece of paper
- stamp the dancing hatching chick in the bottom left corner, color it using Stampin’ Blends
Die Cut using Birthday Chick:
- The two images of the Floating Chicken
- The “Happy Birthday” sentiment from a scrap of Basic Black
- Two Coastal Cabana party banners from one of the 2″ x 3″ pieces of cardstock
Die Cut using the Chick Die Set:
- The chicken coop from the 2″ x 3″ piece of Crumb Cake
- Use the Dark Daffodil Delight Stampin’ Blend to color the straw
- Use the Dark Crumb Cake Stampin’ Blend to color in the door and windows
Punch using the Birthday Bouquet Punch:
- 2 balloons each from the 2″ x 3″ pieces of Melon Mambo, Granny Apple Green, Coastal Cabana, Daffodil Delight
- Use the Stampin’ Chalk Marker to draw the shiny reflection of light on each balloon (do this to the one attached to the chicken as well)
Emboss using the Pinewood Planks Embossing Folder:
- The 4″ x 5.25″ piece of Coastal Cabana
Create the Pop Up Mechanism:
- Burnish each score line on the 3-3/4″ x 3-1/4″ pieces of Coastal Cabana
- Place Tear & Tape on the 1/4″ flap and adhere it to create an open-ended box
- Adhere two pieces of Tear & Tape two connected sides of your open-ended box and
- Fold your scored Melon Mambo cardstock and burnish with your bone folder
- Remove the backing from the tape on one side of the open-ended box and adhere it tightly against the fold of your Melon Mambo card base with the other taped side facing toward card front, as shown:
- Remove the tape backing and close the card so that the box gets adhered to the card front, as shown:
- Adhere the second open-ended box in front of this one, securing it to the bottom of the card and ONLY on the far left and right to the first box – you want to be able to slid your Floating Chicken between the two boxes
Assemble the Remainder of the Card:
- Adhere the embossed Coastal Cabana panel to the card front
- Adhere the 4″ x 2.5″ piece of Granny Apple Green Oh So Ombre DSP with the white dots to the 4.25″ x 2.75″ piece of Melon Mambo
- Adhere the die cut of the Chicken Coop to the Granny Apple Oh So Ombre
- Adhere your Balloons from the Balloon Bouquet punch to this panel
- Adhere the decorated panel to the embossed Coastal Cabana panel
- Inside the card, adhere the solid Granny Apple Green piece to the backside of the card front
- Glue the two Coastal Cabana party banners to the solid Granny Apple Green Oh So Ombre DSP
- Adhere the 4″ x 3.75″ piece of Basic White that has your sentiment on it to the inside of the card
- Now for the final special touch: glue the strip of window sheet to the back of the colored Floating Chicken, leaving 1″ of the window sheet coming from the bottom of the chicken
- Glue the second die cut to the back of the first one so that the window sheet is sandwiched between the die cuts
- Slide the window sheet into the slot between the two Coastal Cabana boxes and close the card; if the balloon sticks out the bottom, trim some of the window sheet off and test again
- Once you know that the balloon will not peek out the bottom of your card, glue the window sheet between the two boxes
How fun is this Pop Up Floating Chicken? I hope you enjoyed this card, I know that I sure did!!
